Why values are key

“I have learned that as long as I hold fast to my beliefs and values, and follow my own moral compass, then the only expectations I need to live up to are my own.”   Michelle Obama

I am motivated to share this work to help you create momentum and overcome limitations so YOU can live your best life.

Values are key to us achieving what we want as they are the non- negotiable underlying themes that connect us with who we truly are. Our North Star as recently described to me.

When we live in alignment with those values we can make decisions with certainty despite the level of difficulty - knowing that we are doing what is ‘right’ for us at any given moment.

Values are our compatibility detectors and the levers to our emotions - they impact our behaviours. Making decisions that are not congruent with our values can leave us feeling uncomfortable with our decisions and at times in conflict with the actions, thoughts and situations we find ourselves in.

When one is clear on their personal values they act as your personal compass. [1]

Reflections for you:

  • Can you explicitly state your values?

  • Is there anything in your life right now where perhaps your values are in conflict with a particular aspect?

I've created a bonus Values worksheet based on Brene Brown's work if you're interested in exploring yours further.

Values are like fingerprints. Nobodies are the same but you leave them all over everything you do.”
