What is it you are needing right now?

"A goal without a plan is just a wish"                                                                                                                                                    Antoine de Saint- Exupery

Please know, this is not a high energy, 'think positive and all will be well' post with underlying notes of pressure around new years resolutions and talking a big game. It's rather, an acknowledgment of the challenging time we are collectively moving through and an invitation to set an intention for the next little while, accompanied by some reasonable and achievable steps for action.

The thing is, to create a sense of buoyancy and energy to move forward we need to feel like we're having some wins. The size not particularly relevant. Every small achievement creates momentum, telling our brain that it is safe to continue. Tiny steps taken, reduce the likelihood of triggering avoidance and fear that often trip us up. The sure fire way to get these wins, is to contemplate what would really make a difference, to know what we have control or influence over and to keep it simple.

Tips to create some wins

To do this, we need to remove or reduce time spent entertaining situations out of our control or none of our business.

We succeed when we utilise the precious space we have available for things we truly want.

Identifying a goal that is both realistic and desirable, as well as scores at least 8/10 from us on a commitment level is key. Anything less and perhaps it's the wrong goal or needs more thought.

With the end goal in mind, working backwards, break down all of the steps required and write them down. I'm not suggesting all the steps need to or will be desirable as they most likely will not be. BUT the outcome or result of taking the often boring or uncomfortable steps will give you the feeling or achievement you are ultimately seeking.

Keeping it simple, dissecting it into many, many steps, writing it down and setting an end date are imperative in supporting self accountability.

What is the next right step for you? It is my hope that these little reminders fuel a spark of motivation and inspire you to work towards what you want.

I'm now off to do this for myself!

“The thing about goals is that living without them is a lot more fun in the short run. It seems to me, though, that the people who get things done, who lead, who grow, and who make an impact ... those people have goals."
